Laide Wood closure update

Floodwater at Poohsticks Bridge - 11th August 2014

Posted: Friday 22 August, 2014

A further inspection of the Wood has taken place, and we a currently seeking costs for the repairs to the main trail itself, especially the approach to the first bridge anti-clockwise.  We are optimistic that the displaced bridge (first anti-clockwise bridge) will be able to be brought back to its proper position, from where it has come to rest downstream following the flood.  This may be possible using a digger, instead of dismantling and re-assembling the bridge - which would take a long time.

Repairs will be under way shortly to Poohsticks bridge (duck race), where the approaches need building up again.  When this has been done, we hope to re-open the Wood so that it will be possible to walk down the clockwise trail, over Poohsticks bridge, and on to the first lochan and through the access path and the blue trail to the bird hide at Loch na Creige.

Access to the cascade will not be possible until remedial works have been carried out on the army bridge (to the cascade).  The complete circuit of the main trail will not be open until the displaced (first anti-clockwise) bridge has been reinstated.  However, you will be able to walk in to the lochans, and back out again the same way.  For the time being, the Wood remains closed.

We will keep you posted.
